SPANISH CROONER LUSTS FOR LEATHER

At our launch festivities in Madrid last month, surprised BUTTheads were fangirling as Álvaro, better known as Guitarricadelafuente, rocked up with his guitar unannounced to debut songs from his new album Spanish Leather. Out now, the release is his gayest yet, with the horny lead video, Full Time Papi, attached below. While his name is a wet Spanish mouthful, Álvaro is a straightforward, committed guy looking to get dirty with life...and maybe some other things. Before the impromptu gig, we caught up with him about his evolution from floppy-haired Youtube twink to “full time papi”.

Andrew: Okay, first things first…what the BUTT is a “full time papi”?
Guitarricadelafuente: What the hell is it? (laughs) Well, for me it’s a mood, my state of mind, over the past two years. When I was working on my first album, La Cantera, I hid my own stories. What I put out there was beautiful, but something so delicate. Everybody had this impression that I was shy boy with a guitar – which was actually true. (laughs) Two years later, I’m feeling completely different.
So how are you feeling now?
I’m excited to show my world and my personality more.
And does that involve sexuality?
Obviously. In the Full Time Papi video, there’s lots of sexual content. Sex is something that’s very very related to the creative direction of the album.
Tell me.
The album is called Spanish Leather. There’s two ways of interpreting it. Leather is something that can be very sexy. Leather culture. It’s a material that’s sexy, raw and with a fetish sensibility. At the same time, leather is something that’s rooted to the culture in Spain. It’s a material that’s part of the traditional craftsmanship of the country, the land.
And you grew up in the countryside?
Yes. I’m from a village to the north of Valencia. I was born and raised there. I only moved to Barcelona like five years ago. I feel like the themes of the new album represent my move to the city – to discover what I needed to discover. My first album was tied to my village and to traditional folk music and now I feel my stories and lyrics are more related to….
…your gay life in Barcelona? You can say it directly.
Yeah, the idea of getting to the city and discovering yourself – your tastes and your body. No filters.
Are you looking for a full time papi or do you wanna be one?
I want to be a full time papi. That doesn’t mean like any role, you know…top or bottom.
So what’s it giving, then? Sexual swagger?
Yeah. I wanna feel my masculinity. And be powerful in it.
Okay, I get it. That’s hot.
There’s also this dynamic today in our generation. I feel that there’s this fear to compromise – in relationships and in everything. Like consuming music, for example. After 30 seconds, you’re already fed up with the song. Or you get into a relationship and two weeks later you go, ‘Okay, we’re getting too close’, just cause you think somebody else is gonna come along who’s better than what you already have.
Ah. The lack of commitment. So being “full time” is also that you’re committed?
Yes. I want to feel this commitment to someone, for the sake of it.
In the Full Time Papi video, there’s this moment when you’re jerking off and humping the ground. Is this something you do often?
It is what it is. (laughs) The video shows these horny moments, that secret time when you are figuring yourself out and what you’re into.
What gets you off?
Turn ons or turn offs?
“Gets you off” is “turn you on”. English is confusing. (laughs)
Well, confidence matters a lot. There are many things I wouldn’t fantasize about, but if I get to meet someone who puts it in a sexy way and makes me feel comfortable about it, then I’m open to anything. I’m, like, open. I’m not picky.
You need someone confident to tell you what to do.
I guess I need a full time papi too. (laughs)
You can trade off. You’re also naked, covered in mud in the video. Do you find mud sexy?
Yeah, there’s this, like, rawness and a kind of power. It’s dirty. Getting yourself into the mud, committing terrors and trying things – getting dirty by life.
But you didn’t have sex in the mud pits?
Not that time, next time.
Got it. If you could be anyone for seven minutes, who’d it be?
David Bowie. But also I’d like to get to know him for more than seven minutes. I love how it didn’t matter whether people thought he was gay or bisexual. He was what he was. He said he was like an alien!
Bless. How quickly do you fall in love?
Very quickly.
Are you in love now?
Yeah, with that guy over there. (points across hotel bar) Our story is actually related to the Full Time Papi vibe. When I fall in love with someone there’s no barrier. When we started dating, within the first week, we already started living together.
Crazy. How did it go down? You met at a party and went home together? Insane sex?
Actually, we hooked up for the first time in this exact hotel. Three years ago.
Oh my god. So there’s a good reason you wanted to stay here again. (laughs)
Anniversary vibes!
Love it. Okay, almost out time. What are you dreaming up next?
We just submitted the album yesterday to print it. All the mastering is done. Everything! It’s been a headache. We’re starting tour in May.
So you’re in a celebratory mood today?
Totally. Tonight, I’m going to sing two songs and then we’re gonna party at CLUB BUTT. There’s a song that’s coming out next week called Futuros Amantes that I’m gonna sing tonight, exclusively for the magazine, okay?
Okay :)
