For years now, Colombian-born photographer Danny Aros has been traveling around the world for testosterone-fueled gatherings, and only recently has turned his camera to the community for his series ‘Agonophiliac’, shot between bedrooms, hotels and Camp Wrestlefest, a sexed-up camp-out for the community in Pennsylvania last summer.
Can you describe an average wrestling session?
The encounters can range from solely cock and ball torture, rip and strip combat, gut punching or boxing, to more controlled scenarios like squash matches or face-sitting.
At what point does the fighting turn into sex?
Sometimes it begins immediately, or it may emerge gradually after a long session of grappling, as clothing is stripped away and the dynamic shifts.
When did you first realise your interest in wrestling was sexual?
I was a big fan of martial arts films growing up. Watching hyper-masculine characters sweat on each other while fighting for dominance became a way for me to navigate my sexuality – especially seeing men in tight trunks, barefoot and fully embodied in combat. By my early teens, I began exploring online platforms where you could create a profile and connect with others, which helped me understand that there is a community out there.
What are the risks involved in agonophilia?
Depending on size differences or intensity, minor injuries can happen and those are never fun. Rule number one is always respecting the boundaries discussed beforehand and remembering that safe play depends on honoring a tap-out. I bruise easily, but I embrace my bruises like medals.
