An ass watcher’s delight, this series is taken from University of Wisconsin–Madison art student (and BUTT cover star for the month of February) Zachary Schwaller’s book, ‘Cabin: A Series of Self-Portraits and Writings’. The pocket-size book documents the author’s acute — and self-imposed — loneliness-bordering-on-gay-narcissism as he spends eighteen days, mostly naked or in just a thong, gazing into the mirror or camera lens. These reflective moments are punctuated by ritualistic bathing and some spooky torch-lit walks into the nearby forest.

29-year-old Beto in Buenos Aires, Argentina has an eye for dreamlike renderings involving other species in sexy undergear. His characters seem to materialize from parallel homo-verse where spirit animals with a sportswear fetish run wild. This drawing certainly takes top prizes for being the most surreal image to drop into the BUTT inbox recently.

Alex ‘Double Denim’ Turgeon from Halifax, Nova Scotia is a poet slash e-book publisher currently doing an artist residency just outside Vilnius, Lithuania. He’s working on a project he calls ‘The Asshole as the Origin of the World’, an idea he thinks is ‘important to consider’.

Steve Strange, the London club personality and singer of New Romantic act Visage, was a man with his heart in the right place. His dedication to style and self expression was — and will continue to be — inspiring. When we met in the late 70s, Steve was dressed head to foot in Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood’s Seditionaires clothing. His hair was spiked, and he had pixie boots on. I will never forget his passion when working out a look. He would parade his latest outfit for my approval before we ventured into the night. We never thought our little one-nighter, the Blitz, would be become so influential. We just loved dressing up.

Photographer Benjamin Fredrickson of Minneapolis — who specializes in a kind of domestic fetishism and lusty frankness — is exhibiting his first solo show at Daniel Cooney Fine Art in New York City. Regular readers of this website might recall Benjamin’s Polaroid series in BUTT 26 and subsequent BUTT calendars. The gallery show features some of these instant hard-on type shots with Benjamin himself sometimes stepping in front of the camera.

Freckled Englishman Andrew J. Burford escaped to mostly sunny Melbourne, Australia in 2009 to make “art about dicks and men”. In this video, he’s doing the so-called man’s job of opening jars with ease, part of a series he calls ‘Masc’. Cruising enthusiast Andrew recently found himself erecting a roadside glory hole for truckers during a month-long artist residency in Nebraska.
